Scott Perry’s consulting and marketing firm Sperry Media helps tech companies, TV networks, film studios, record labels, and beverage brands find their target audiences. Perry’s newmusictipsheet.com emails bring healthy debate over emerging technologies and best practices every Monday morning. He will be moderating the Age of the Benefactor: The 21st Century Fan Club panel at South by Southwest on Thursday, March 15 from 2:00PM to 3:00PM in the Austin Convention Center, Room 17B. We asked Scott a few questions about the panel:
What was your interest in creating this panel and how does it relate to your background?
I always keep up with emerging technologies, and now that we are a few years in with TopSpin, Kickstarter, PledgeMusic, and other platforms, I wanted the panelists to talk about what has and hasn’t worked.
Who else is on the panel and what do they bring to the subject?
Each brings tons of experience in the direct-to-fan marketing space in their own unique perspective: Jennie Smythe (Girlilla Marketing (Zac Brown, others)), Madi Diaz (artist), Bleu (artist), Carissa Stolting (mgr, Julia Nunes)
Why is this panel important to musicians?
Musicians need a better understanding of how to use these platforms to communicate with / gain support from their fans – all without distracting them from their art or overwhelming them with too many options.
What do you hope people will walk away with after attending this panel?
Some great case studies and a plan of action moving forward.
