Sol Cat would be a moggie if it were a real life feline. The Cat reps Texas, Missouri, California, D.C. and we just added Georgia to the mix, so our blood is really starting to turn a pretty crazy color. These geographic and cultural differences play a major part in the our sound. Physically we like the slow groove and grinding on each other while mentally, we desire to melt faces and encourage reflection, offering a chilled out, sometimes sexual time.
As a lead-up to South by Southwest, The Noise Room is talking to bands and artists performing at SXSW. Here’s what Sol Cat had to say:
What do like most about playing at SXSW?
Favorite aspects of SXSW include tacos, pizza, maybe splurge on some seafood at that one place for a night, but probably not this year, it’s out of the $3/day food stipend our label provides for us.
Are you out promoting anything?
We put out an EP in October, it’s got some songs we dig. I think we will be playing a lot of material we’ve been writing in the past few weeks, everything is new to everyone anyways so, we’ll just be promoting tunes.
Are there any bands or musicians that you are looking forward to checking out?
We try to catch our friends from home and other bands from Nashville. We know a lot of them, but there are a few we may not be gittin down with on the reg, but when you see a familiar face in Austin it is usually a pretty hyped interaction. Or at least for us it is.
What are the challenges for you or your band when playing at SXSW?
Allergies and alcohol poisoning
Do you have any survival tips for those attending SXSW?
Water, free cigarettes, or maybe a dollar and something pack of cigarettes, taco trucks, ground scores, find the Red Bull Hangar party.
Are you more “stick around, check out music and enjoy the scene” or “play as many shows as possible then get out”?
We are definitely a “close ‘er down” type of crew. It’s a long way to Austin, so we try not to sleep, see all we can, hear all we can. We take seriously the music we are presenting so we want to soak all that up and play some gnarly shows.
